Senior Insight Lead
Senior Insight Lead
Location: Brighton
Department: Data & Analytics
Position type: Full-time, hybrid
The role
MPB is the world’s largest platform for used photo and video kit, helping photographers and videographers buy, sell and trade gear across the UK, EU and US. Data sits at the centre of how that actually works - pricing, customer behaviour, marketing effectiveness, commercial planning - and feed back through the P&L.
This is a deliberate investment in MPB’s data capability at a moment when the business is scaling fast and the ground is shifting under data teams everywhere. The Senior Insight Lead owns the central analytics and data intelligence capability at MPB - partnering with internal function leads across customer, pricing, marketing and finance to turn data into decisions; leading a team of data specialists evolving toward more full-stack capabilities; and making AI-native, democratised access to data the default rather than the exception.
This role is positioned as Insight Partnering, not reporting. The job of the team isn’t to produce more dashboards - it’s to raise the quality of the decisions MPB makes with data, and to build the team, the tools and the culture that can keep doing that as the business grows.
We’re moving to a hub-and-spoke model for data at MPB. Dedicated data roles are being positioned inside platform squads, supported by the central data function. This role sits within the central function - supporting internal use cases. You’ll be one of the senior voices shaping the emerging Data and Analytics Community of Technical Practice (CTP) as the hub-and-spoke model takes shape, and you’ll have the mandate (and the backing) to redesign how data actually works here. Decision Scientist roles in the squads will pull from the foundations this role helps set.
What you will be doing
Lead from the front. Set the tone for the central data team, lead three direct reports, manage senior stakeholders, prioritise effectively, and represent data credibly at leadership level.
Strategic data partnership. Partner with customer, pricing, marketing, and finance leads to translate commercial questions into clear data needs.
Centralise insight as MPB’s single source of truth. Own certified metrics, the semantic layer, insight repositories, and standards that reduce duplication and create trusted foundations for teams and AI tools.
Lead data democratisation through AI / LLM capabilities. Make it genuinely possible for non-data people at MPB to ask data questions in natural language and get trustworthy answers. That means supporting the D&A ownership of the guardrails - the certified metrics, the semantic layer, the evals, the documentation, the boundaries of where the LLM is allowed to roam.
Decision science. Lead decision-support work across pricing, customer understanding, marketing effectiveness, and commercial planning, applying the right level of rigour for each problem.
Lead and develop the team. Supporting the team and its growth as roles evolve from traditional analytics toward a more full-stack shape - spanning data engineering, insight, data science / advanced analytics. Coach, calibrate and unblock; set the bar for what good work looks like at MPB centrally.
Drive the data culture at MPB. Build strong habits around better questions, sharper answers, constructive challenge, and AI-enabled ways of working.
Set the bar for how good data work gets done. Define and model high standards for scoping, analysis, experimentation, AI tooling, review, and trusted data foundations for humans and agents.
Own the storytelling and playout. Lead clear recommendations, stakeholder communication, and insight delivery that drives action and changes decisions.
Partner with the squad data roles. Work with embedded data roles to share methods, signals, metrics, and second opinions, making the hub-and-spoke model work in practice.
Contribute to the data CTP. Help shape the Community of Technical Practice as a senior voice, encouraging t-shaped growth and cross-discipline knowledge sharing.
What we are looking for
Strong experience across data analytics, decision science or applied data roles, including several years leading and growing teams of data specialists, and a track record of operating credibly with senior commercial stakeholders
An analytical and critical thinker - with good problem solving skills, proven ability to prepare, transform, analyse and disseminate significant amounts of data and information with consideration to accuracy and knowing what robust looks like
Fluency, across the data stack (Engineering, Analytics, Insight, Data Science/Advanced Analytics)
Experience of hands on coding in SQL and/or Python and dashboarding tools
Strong commercial understanding and grounding - delivering recommendations and actionable insights that drive value
Storytelling and strong stakeholder communication
Culture-shaper, not just an individual contributor - demonstrable experience building, coaching and developing data teams, including hiring, performance management, and shaping how a team works rather than just what it delivers.
Energised by serving multiple internal functions with competing priorities
It would also be great if you have:
Hands-on experience designing or shipping a semantic layer, metrics layer, or LLM-over-warehouse capability.
Experience working in a marketplace or e-commerce business.
Track record of replacing something complicated with something simpler.
Experience designing and running experiments / A-B tests in a real product or commercial setting.
Experience leading a team through a structural change - e.g. moving to a hub-and-spoke model, embedding data into product squads, or shifting a team's shape from traditional analytics toward full-stack.
